Reishi mushroom – “mushroom of immortality”

Medicinal mushrooms are used to treat and prevent a wide array of illnesses through their use as immune stimulants, immune modulators, adaptogens and antioxidants. It may seem strange but it’s true. As immune stimulants, mushrooms can be used to help treat cancer and fight infections by initiating an immune response which results in higher levels of white blood cells, cytokines, and antibodies and complement proteins. Reishi, maitake, cordyceps, blazei, split-gill, turkey tail and shiitake are some of the examples of medicinal mushrooms. They are the most well known and researched mushrooms.

Reishi mushroom has been called the “mushroom of immortality”.  It is used to cure many diseases like viral infections (flu, swine flu, and avian flu), lung conditions such as asthma and bronchitis, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain cancer tumors. It is one of the most widely and the oldest used medicinal mushrooms in the world.

It has been getting popular day by day. Sometimes it becomes difficult to know which the pure one is. To know the fact, it is essential to check where it is grown, and at what point they are used to extract the most potent compounds.  Moreover it is necessary to see the method of extraction. The two most preferred ways of extraction are water extraction and alcohol extraction. It is anti viral and anti tumor. It is a tonic for kidney. It controls high blood pressure. It is used to moderate stress and mood swings.
